Hannay Reels — The Industry Standard in Hose & Cable Reels Since 1933
Fourth-generation, family-owned manufacturer of the most durable and dependable hose and cable reels in the business. Built to individual specs on a 200,000+ sq ft campus in Westerlo, New York. Available through Flash Wildfire Services.
Why Hannay?
In 1933, Clifford B. Hannay was asked by a local kerosene delivery man to build a unit to pump fuel directly from his truck to homes — rather than carrying pails. Word of Clifford's reel spread quickly, requests started coming in, and Clifford B. Hannay & Son was born. Over 90 years and four generations later, Hannay Reels produces over 80,000 reels per year and has more than two million reels working around the world. Every reel is handcrafted and custom-made to individual specifications using heavy-gauge steel that absorbs punishment from the most demanding applications.
Built Different
Full-Length Welds
Every Hannay reel features full-length welds — not spot welds or tack welds. This means stronger joints, longer service life, and a reel that holds together under repeated stress and vibration in the field.
Heavy-Gauge Steel Construction
Hannay reels are built with heavy-gauge steel to absorb the punishment delivered by the most demanding applications. Aluminum and stainless steel construction options are also available for weight-sensitive or corrosive environments.
Self-Aligning Ball Bearings
Self-aligning ball bearings reduce friction and compensate for minor misalignment, so the reel spins smoothly even after years of hard use. Less drag means easier deployment and pickup.
One-Piece Axle Hub Assembly
Hannay's one-piece axle hub assembly eliminates weak points found in multi-piece designs. It's a stronger, simpler connection between the drum and the frame — built for longevity in high-demand environments.
Fire & Rescue Reels
Hannay is the number one reel company specified by firefighters worldwide. Their fire and rescue reels are designed for quicker deployment and pickup when every second counts — from booster hose reels for quick first-attack on small fires, to flat hose reels that hold up to 70% more hose than hard hose in far less space than cross lay or Mattydale options. Drain and rewind is a one-person operation, saving time and manpower to get your unit back in service faster.
Available configurations include manual rewind (disc, gear-driven crank, direct crank, chain-driven crank), spring rewind, and power rewind (electric, air, or hydraulic). Every truck design is different — Hannay builds each fire hose reel to individual vehicle specs.
Reel Types for Fire & Wildland Applications
Booster Hose Reels
Quick first-attack for small fires, mop-up, and crash situations while larger volume hoses are being set up. Available in standard painted steel or aluminum construction — the "Super Booster" weighs up to 30% less with chip-proof polished aluminum discs. Inlet is 1" female NPT 90° swivel joint rated at 1,000 PSI. Electric rewind models include 12V motor, remote push-button switch, solenoid, and connectors.
Flat Hose Reels
Hold up to 70% more hose than hard hose, in far less space than cross lay or Mattydale options. Drain and rewind is a one-person operation — saving time and crew on scene. Ideal for departments that need maximum hose capacity in tight compartments without sacrificing deployment speed.
Portable Forestry Reels
Lightweight and portable hose storage reels designed for 1" forestry lay flat or standard lay flat hose — for when extra lengths are needed in remote or difficult terrain. Features adjustable cam-lock drag brake and permanent crank rewind. Strong enough for field use, light enough to carry.
Rewind & Configuration Options
Manual Rewind
Hand crank, gear-driven crank, direct crank, or chain-driven crank options. Simple, reliable, and field-serviceable — no electrical system required. Ideal for slip-on units, trailers, and applications where weight and simplicity matter.
Power Rewind
Electric (12V), air, or hydraulic rewind options for faster pickup and reduced crew fatigue. Electric models include motor, solenoid, remote push-button switch, and connectors. Motor options range from 1/3 HP to 2/3 HP depending on application requirements.
Custom Design
Hannay's custom department produces reels to meet precise application requirements. Hub assembly, rewind type, motor location, roller position, and mounting orientation (floor, wall, ceiling, vehicle, trailer, or cart) are all configurable. Right top rewind is standard — left top, right bottom, and left bottom positions are also available.
Pair It With a Custom Apparatus Build
Flash Wildfire Services specs Hannay reels into our custom apparatus builds — from Rancher Series units for rural property owners to full wildland fire trucks for departments and agencies. We match the right reel, hose, and rewind configuration to your specific vehicle and operational needs. One supplier, one call.
Engineered for Demanding Applications
